Imagine being able to provide an immediate response to questions your patients have about dental services or your practice. Now you can!

Google is upgrading their messaging capabilities, making it easier for businesses to connect with their clients and customers.

New updates on Google Maps and Google My Business provide more ways for consumers to message businesses directly and receive prompt responses. Dental practices should keep in mind that due to HIPAA, it’s always best to avoid sharing any sensitive information over any messaging feature.

Google is also creating more analytics options, so businesses have a better understanding of how consumers are finding them. Here’s what you should know.

Messaging Expansion

The Google Maps app now has messaging capabilities through business profiles in the updates section and Google Posts.

Just turn messaging on from your business profile, and you can begin receiving and replying to your patients from the business messages section in the “Updates” tab. The messages will also appear in your GMB app, so you never miss a beat.

Additionally, if a patient tries to contact your dental office, and there’s no answer, they will be prompted to send you a message directly.

New Metrics for Business Owners

Google has also improved business performance metrics in the GMB app. These metrics will give more in-depth insights into the search queries patients are using to locate your dental practice on Google Maps and Google Search. You will even be able to identify if the patient used a computer or mobile device for their search, with the metrics available for you to view for up to six months.

How does this impact your dental practice? When you can gather information about how your patients find you, you can hone your SEO and other marketing efforts in the right direction to attract more new patients.

Communicating with your patients through direct messaging allows you to give them prompt responses to their questions, so they have the information they need to make decisions fast. This could mean the difference between them choosing your dental practice over another in the area.
